What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy means the use of hypnosis for the treatment and relief of a variety of psychosomatic and psychological symptoms. The therapy is carried out while the patient is under hypnosis. The best way to describe a hypnotic state is, as an altered state of consciousness. All hypnotic states are pleasant and relaxing, with a feeling of neither being asleep nor fully awake. This deep state of relaxation allows a patient to enjoy increased focus and self-awareness and make contact with the inner (unconscious) self that is the source of many of our problems as well as a tremendous reservoir of unrecognized potential strength and knowledge.

Hypnosis is a natural way of accessing our unconscious mind. Positive and beneficial suggesting can be delivered directly to the unconscious self, which promotes rapid change and long lasting benefits. Hypnotherapy is a completely natural and safe way to treat problems with no harmful side effects. Nobody can be hypnotized against their own will and when hypnotized, patients can come out of the trance at any time during a therapy session. It is estimated that 85% of people from all age groups would respond to clinical hypnotherapy.

History of Hypnosis

Hypnotic or suggestive therapy is one of the oldest healing techniques and was used in ancient Greece and Rome and in the Sleep temples of Egypt. Some form of hypnosis has always been a part of all cultures. In 1955 hypnosis was given scientific status and the British Medical Association endorses the practice of hypnosis in Medical School education.

Hypnotherapy is now widely recognized as an effective, powerful and safe way to bring about positive changes and has become a valuable addition to conventional medical treatment.
